The Dangers of Horse Racing: New York State

Horse PostHorse racing is one of the world’s oldest past times and still amongst the most popular sporting events on the planet.  And while incredibly widespread, horse racing has always been marred by what opponents have characterized as abusive practices, at times bordering on criminal, towards the animals that make the sport possible.

In an effort to clean up their murky image,  New York State has made several recent moves that have received applause from detractors.  Amongst them are shortening the winter-race schedule to 4-days per week and severely limiting the list of approved medications available for treatment.  But even with these changes being made, naysayers still feel there is much to be done to ensure the proper treatment and safety of race horses.
